Marit Stiles shares her plan to fight rising costs

NDP platform outlines commitments to fight rising costs, hire doctors, build homes, fix schools, and defend Ontario jobs.

TORONTO – Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles unveiled her plan to fight rising costs and restore the promise of Ontario.

“Ontario should be a place full of opportunities. A place where you can look forward to the future, not worry about making it to the end of the month.

Doug Ford promised to make life better in Ontario – but he hasn’t delivered. Rent is out of control, it’s harder to find a doctor, and your monthly bills for the basics are higher than ever.

It’s time to choose a better Ontario.

As Premier, I will fight against rising costs, freeze taxes, hire doctors, build homes you can afford, and fix local schools. I’ll lead a government that will always be on your side.”

Marit Stiles and the Ontario NDP will:

• Fight rising costs with a monthly grocery rebate to put money back into your pockets and bring transparency to grocery pricing. Every month, low- and middle-income families will get up to $122 back in their pockets to make up for rising grocery costs.
• Freeze taxes for 98% of Ontarians. We will freeze taxes for low- and -middle income earners, and make sure that the wealthiest 2% pay their fair share.
• Hire doctors and nurses so you can have care when you need it and where you need it. We will invest $4.1 billion over four years to recruit 3,500 doctors and fast-track solutions in the first 100 days—more family health teams, shorter specialist wait times, and flexible care options.
• Build homes you can afford. We will immediately build or acquire 300,000 units of permanently affordable non-profit and co-op homes, 60,000 units of supportive housing, and work towards the goal of building 1.5 million homes by 2030 through Homes Ontario.
• Fix schools and set kids up for success. We will hire staff, feed kids through a universal school lunch program, and will invest an additional $830 million a year to repair and renew our local schools.
• Defend Ontario jobs, fight back with Team Canada, and build a more tariff-proof economy for the years to come. We will protect jobs and family incomes in trade-exposed industries like steel, auto and agriculture and direct provincial agencies to Buy Ontario while we find new trading partners for Ontario goods.

Stiles’s platform comes after her release of three comprehensive regional platforms outlining the Ontario NDP’s vision for a stronger post-Ford Ontario.
